Best Speedo mounting against vibration, etc.

So my mini-speedo decided to crap out on me after only a year or so and about 2,000 miles. It is the white-faced Dime City unit. The cable is fine, the odometer turns and the electrics are good, but the speedo needle just dangles.

Cracking the thing open is nigh impossible, so repair seems out of the question. Might dig into it once it becomes a spare.

Perhaps stupidly, I am going to replace it with another unit of the same model, as I really like the look and functionality of the gauge - when it worked.

I suspect the failure resulted from vibration at the bars. I used some rubber washers when mounting the gauge, but perhaps not enough to protect the unit from rattling.

What are some good methods to mount up the new gauge to guard against vibration damage?

Rubber mounting is a good method, only use something more effective. The auto parts stores in my area carry rubber grommets for windshield wiper motors. Sold as "Help" brand, or something to this effect. The rubber needs to be pretty soft and allow the component to float so to speak. There are various other rubber mounting solutions, you just need to fine one that packages for your application.
