It's impossible to get a bike to run right with pods and a free flowing pipe.

When I bought my 1000 the PO had the back half of the air box off and a big K&N in there. It had horrible low-throttle response. I returned it to stock and am very happy with the response and power. He had the bike for 30000 miles and almost 30 years so he played around with it. I let him ride it after I returned it to stock and he couldn't believe it. He almost regretted the sale.Last edited by 1980GS1000E; 08-07-2012, 09:32 PM.NO PIC THANKS TO FOTO BUCKET FOR BEING RIDICULOUS

I have really good throttle response. Well, with the acception of an intermittent stumble JUST off idle. But again my carbs are not right. I can live with it for another couple months.'83 GS 1100T

Reaper0001
i am very intrigued with your findings
witch got me to thinking
stock air boxes suck no matter what you do
k&n is the way to go
Pods are suceptable to wind and weather conditions! also they are exposed so they get dirty easily
so we need a DIRECT air flow line from a single
lets say CONE style air filter that holds the similar VOLUME as the pods
but lets more air flow in much SMOOTHER to the carbs for better UMMPPFH
here is my idea / plan
i want to build a steel piping cold ram air intake system
using the same original concept as the fellas from suzuki did but instead of making a box and attaching everything make a setup just like my exhust 4into1
except reverse 1into4
use pipes that fit in to the carb slots i hope
if all goes well i will have for yall a stock airbox setup complete with airfilter for sale and k&n pods
wish me luck and i will send yall pics!!
SORRY FOR THE LONG RESPONSE
again just my 2 cents

Do enough research and…
The more research and testing you do, the closer you'll get to duplicating the original Suzuki design intake.1982 GS1100G- road bike

Another stock intake system lover here. It's a fact that K&N's don't filter the air as well as a good paper filter. Oh, and K&N's are preoiled out of the box. You don't have to oil them again until you clean the filter later after use. Also, unless you are willing to fiddle with your jetting to optimize the running, you are likely to loose power not add any.
Wish I had a nickle for every post here where someone installed pods and then couldn't get their bike to run right.

You can tell that they don't work worth a darn by all of the race bikes running around using the stock airboxes.
Nice charts BTW.
Just sayin'
