4 PISTON NISSIN FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS

Has anyone on this forum mounted nissin brake calipers to their stock forks. I have a 81 GS 1100E, I understand that I will have to make a mounting bracket, my concern is will the brake pads line up correctly with the stock rotors. I haven't purchased the calipers yet wanted to make sure that this will work.

    Thanks,

    Andy.

    Brakes

I have a set of four piston Katana calipers on my 84 GS750 and am going to upgrade to the 4 piston Nissan calipers. I also have the Katana rotors which are thinner than the stock GS rotors.

i have a pair of 88-94 4 piston GSXR nissan calipers/lines. looking to sell them. i was going to usethem on the GS 750/1981 but decided not to. looks like a bracket will have to be made and/or to shim the rotor away from the wheel. imo- the pads do line up. but i can't be 100percent sure of that.

If you have to make a bracket, you can just adjust the thickness of the bracket to ensure the calipers line up properly on the rotors. Pretty much any caliper can be made to fit on any bike if you are willing to work on a set of adaptor plates. There are 2 things that will make it impossible to fit a caliper:

        1) The rotor is too thick to fit into the caliper properly. You can machine the rotor thickness a bit or find a thinner rotor. Older rotors are generally MUCH thicker than new stuff, so this can be an issue.

        2) The caliper is too wide to fit between the rotor and the wheel. This is not uncommon with new 4 or 6 piston calipers combined with older spoked or cast wheels. You can either find a narrower caliper or space the rotors out for more clearance.
