overbore pistons questions

hey guys i have a 1978 suzuki gs 1000 and i was wanting to know what size pistons are in the bike now and what kind of pistons are good for more power
also what kind of rods do i kneed

Stock rods will work fine for up to at least a strong running 1100 (73.5 mm bore in 997 cylinders)

The stock crank is plenty strong, although if you want to make sure, send it out and get it welded. I'm not that knowledgeable on this subject but have seen a couple of different names bantered about when it comes to this kind of work: Pearson and Stan Gardner.

For pistons, the Wiseco 73mm big bore kit is very popular.

That is a heck of a good deal for a stock compression/cast piston set.
And still a safe over-bore for the stock 1000 cylinder.

Jay from Ape said they don't normally recommend the 73.5 mm kits for the GS1000 as they make the liners questionably thin. I believe he will special order them for you if necessary though. Guess what I'm driving at is a 73 mm bore is safer, although I'm sure there are a good many people that haven't had problems with the larger pistons.

15+ years/70-80,000 miles and a LOT more compression (10.7:1) on mine so far...
Stock compression ratio would not be a problem as I stated prior.
