I'm at 6.88 at 103.88, Skip your record still stands !!!!

Only got in 16 runs before calling it a night. Bike was running good, did alot of wheelies and spinning the rear tire again. Best 60 footer was only 1.75 again. MPH is getting higher. The only mod I did this week was to use 1 3/4 radiator hose to mount the carbs and it work out AOK.

The rest of my rear wheel assy and slick should be here next week and will see how that's going to work. [/b]

Wow, 16 runs must be a lot of fun. Are you only racing a dozen bikes? I would think it would take a lot more time before your turn comes around.

    Cheers, Steve

On Friday it's test and tune, heads up racing and all you have to do is get in line. I just keep going until the air shifter bottle gets down to 80 psi about 5 runs then I head back to my truck for a battery and air recharge and the whole cycle begins again.

After I run against a few of them boys they don't want to run again so I make a few bye runs and then they see a high 6 or 103 on the board and they asked each other who did that. I just sit back and laugh to myself. Some of them get worried I guess when I'm doing 15 second burnout and the bike is banging off the rev-limiter while the sound coming out of the Pro pipe is deafing. I like to run in the left lane so they can hear me loud and clear.

I want to get my 17 bucks worth of racing that i paided to get in.

If I get a good launch I will hit the rev limiter (10K) just before the mph lights and will have to shift into 4th. If I spin off the line then I have to shift right before the line. If it's really bad then i'm in 3rd. I changed from a 41 to a 42 rear sprocket and running a 3 to1 ratio now with a 14 front sprockets with a 150 street tire. I can't even give it full throttle in first gear with out doing a wheelie or spinning. I think if I gear it lower I would be spinning the rear more. But once I get a slick on the back then it's a different story then I'll try a 45 and 48 rear sprocket.
It's funny how you bounce between the engine and rear tire when you do any mods just to get the power to the ground.

I did have a few folks come up and asked what was I riding. It's sort of nice to whip alot the newer aluminum boys with this 22 year old bike.

Good going Jake! I was able to get 14 runs in today and I was the only bike there so all of them were bye runs. It was a test and tune day as well, but it costs $30 for us. You Texas guys have it made, cheap gas and cheap entry fees too! Anyway, you will really like your slick and wheelie bars when you get it hooked up! Thanks for keeping us all in the loop. We really like it!

            God Bless!

              Jake,
Do you have a steering dampner on your bike?

No I sure don't, do I need one.
The front end wobbles alittle sometimes on 1-2 and 2-3 shifts just like the big boys do but not as much.

The old KZ's and GS's as far as I've always heard are known for head shake. Usually when you load up the front end. When you start strapping the front and running struts in the back you make it alot worse. The fix is the rake the front end out and or put a good steering dampner on it. Last year a guy with a kz1000 went into nasty head shake when he got off the gas and loaded up the front end. He went out on a helicopter. I was always told by the old timers never to chop the throttle at the finish line. They always said to ease off. My bike is raked with a steering dampner. I can chop the throttle hard and have never had it do anything scary. I dont know that a dampner is a cure all, but they are supposed to help. Take a look at the real fast dragbikes. They run 2 dampners. One on each side. With you going faster and faster you should probably look into it.

The only time I get the wiggles is shifting sometimes and I stay on the gas and it goes away. It's never happen when I was braking infact most of the time I just use my front brake to slow down. Most of the time after I go throught the line I stay on the gas and get 5 gear then hit the front brake hard to make the sharp righthand turn.

The bike has a 16 inch front wheel and the front end is strap down to only 1 1/2 of travel so I know the rake has been reduce and then we do have a bump at the end of the line that makes the bike lurch in the air alittle 8O
