I CAN'T FIND AN EXACT ANSWER PLEASE HELP! Lowering parts ?'s

Ok, I've searched the forums... Google... etc. I can't seem to find a direct answer to my lowering questions.. I have a 81 Suzuki GS-750L which is getting bobbed this winter. I do not want to go with a hard tail suspension, I'd rather run lowering shocks (streets in Cincinnati suck). I have found Progressive Shocks online that fit the bike, but it doesn't specify that it lowers the bike... I hear people saying "use smaller shocks" From what bike??? I heard Rebel shocks??? Sportster shocks??? So here are my questions:

    1. What shocks from what bikes can I swap out to lower the rear of the bike?

    2. Where or what can I do to lower the front?

This is my first bike build, I know cars... learning bikes. Help a noob out! Thanks.

My stock shocks are 13" eye to clevis.
If I wanted to lower my bike i would buy ones that are 11" eye to clevis.

For the front I would just loosen the triple clamps and slide the forks up through them to my desired ride high.
I you plan on going really low you may need risers as the space above the tops of the forks will be limited by the handle bars.

    Ebay: 11" eye to clevis

        mr engineer .

progressive 412 shocks rear 11" shock = 2 inches of lowering.

and for the front a small piece of steel tubing installed under the inner damppening rod. gotta remove and disassemble the forks--you can choose how low you want- until it is rigid. spring height has to be adjusted same amount as you lower the fork.

better be ready to chop the kick stand.

There is your EXACT answer -- however I think you should enlist some experiencd help - doing it wrong will create a un-safe motorcycle -- and probably kill a guy - or possibly a child standing next to it.

Just make sure those shorter shocks don't cause the rear tire to crash into the inner fender on full compression. Hate to read about someone crashing out as a result of hitting a pot hole.

No, Tom, it's not the fit, it has to be the LOOK.

Try eating more. At 235lbs I lower my bike just fine. (lol)

Seriously though, Steel Toed Tank has it. 11" E to C is a good start for the rear. Just keep in mind that the lower you go, so too goes the pipes. I was thinking about lowering until I realized I'd lose some lean angle on the right do to my exhaust setup.

I hear ya Steve, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure there's going to be a few eyes rolled and a few heads scratch when I post pics on the buckhorns I mounted on my 1100E. Put almost 50 miles on them yesterday and I honestly think it handles BETTER with the bucks. As for the OP, be sure to post up after you've lowered it and let us know your thoughts.

Consider moving the lower shock mounts rearward on the swing arm. That will lower the rear.

Put shorter bars on, it'll make you think it is lowered.
