    GS 1000 - stock performance numbers ??

    I have read that the 78 GS1000 was one of the fastest bikes of it's time.

    Where can I find statistics of how fast and quick they are?

    Also, how do they compare in speed and quickness to the stock 1000 cc bikes built today?

    They are butt slow in stock configuration to a modern 600, let alone a 1000.

      a brand new gs1000 in 78 was pushing roughly 95BHP. a modern 1000cc bike is 150+bhp. you work it out, lol

          And has brakes, suspension and a frame that is light years ahead of the stuff available in 1978.

            To many contradicting spec pages;

            The Suzuki GS1000 traces its history back to1976 when Suzuki launched the GS line of lightweight 4-cylinder, 4-stroke bikes.

            Plus a little pdf of the yoshimura 1000

            As far as comparing to today's bike's there is none. You just have to love them

              That link didnt work for me.

              I am surprised there is not a place that lists all the stock bikes 1/4 mile times, top speed etc....

                I do know the '78 GS1000 was a '83 bhp bike. And I believe it was the 3rd fastest production bike in '78, behind the Honda CBX and Yamaha XS11.
                The fastest quarter mile time I've read for it was 11.78 and top speed around 140 but nothing really confirming on the top speed.

                I had a '78 back in the day and it was the fastest! Only because I never came up against anything faster. no CBX's or XS11's .

                Want spec's, here's a list!
