So, if Jake decided to switch to Methanol how would he set the timing? Can he assume the flame speed for methanol is proportional for the same engine? So, for example, can he use the 0.34 m/s for gasoline and 0.43 m/s for methanol to get a ratio of 0.79. or about 20% slower burn. So if his GS is set for say 30 deg. BTDC could he just bump it to 36 deg to compensate for the slower fuel burn? Again, assuming that no other changes were made to the combustion chamber and that the 30 degress was the right setting in the first place for his current engine.

Methanol is very corosive, Yor need to feed your engine twice as much fuel, would require different carbs and a presurised fuel system, maybe even more compression

I think I covered most of that in the racing fuel thread. Two items though, you do not need a pressurized fuel system, or higher compression.

Now, how about setting the timing?
