    Exhaust question 2 into 1 or 4 into 1 ?

So I have my winter project all setup on my 81 GS 550L . Currently has dual 2 into 1 pipes .
Im sure that flows nicely at higher rpms but the back pressure is less at the bottom end.
Would going to 4 into 1 create a better off the line power ?

    The opposite.

4-1 = more power up top.

    4-2 = more power down low/mid.

    Generally speaking, of course.

read through the following thread. will give you a bit more insight into the pro's and cons of both.

      1978 GS1085.

Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!

Mine has the 4-1 Vance and Hines pipes and I can tell you that compared to my CX500 (which had standard pipes) the noise difference on the 4-1 is pretty large. Not that it's "bad" noise, it just has a serious growl that is all business.

It's the difference of a kitty cat meowing and a lion roaring. The lion roar is pretty impressive, but definitely not subtle. You won'rt be sneaking up on anyone with a 4-1 set up.

Can't tell you much about the performance aspect because I'd be comparing a 500 with an 850.
