Guesstimates for future baseline jetting?
I have no idea of carb setup for the future engine setup. Its a 1983 GS1100E that will have a ported, stock valve sized 1100 head, 1166cc, more than likely Webcam 340 (?). What's the best all-around timing for the cams? The biggest drawback is that it has to have the stock GS air box and a set of 1985 GS1150 exhaust pipes. The head and carbs are a done deal so its from there on. Is it worthwhile to put the 1150's valve into the 1100 head? Complete waste of time? There's gotta be some benefit somewhere? One fellow mentioned that the biggest hindrance is the stock airbox, but it can be improved (?). Anyway with such a build, where would one start with jetting and needles and others?

Not sure what you are trying to achieve with the mix. The standard settings for the 340 webcams are a good place to be for improved mid range.
What carbs are you going to use. The 36mm 1150 CV's are good. The jetting will need to be stepped up quite a bit from stock to account for the 1166 but more so to account for pods and pipe depending upon what you select. If you stick with stock airbox, are you going to go to a lower restriction air filter.
I think stock 1150 is Mikuni 122 with the 36mm , you probably dont need to change the stock needles with airbox and stock exhaust. 130 main would be a good place to start, maybe a little rich but plan on some where between 125-130.

I do have a set of stock jetted 1150 carbs on hand (coming). And the ported 1100 head. The cams and pistons I don't have yet. But the stock 1150 pipes and stock visible part of the air box have to remain. Yes I know a lot of power is tossed out the window with the box and pipes, but that's part of the issue I have no idea of what effects it has on the jetting requirements.
*EDIT* are the top end oilers needed with the the 340's? Seems like many varying opinions on the topic.Last edited by 6pkrunner; 10-28-2012, 01:55 PM.1983 GS1100E

the 1150 mains are 120 (1&4) and 122.5 (3&4).
I have everything you plan on but have a 4:2:1/pods which is closer to a stock pipe as far as mid range as compared to the 4:1 and I am well tuned at 135 main.
That is why I suggest you will not need over a 130 main (and a 130 would only be with a free flowing filter in the box and the top off).
You will need to be in the 125-130 range more than likely.

Edit 5/20/2012The final jet setting I arrived at are as follows. You can compare this with the various descriptions
Bike is GS1100ED 1166, ported head, K&N pods, 36mm BS36, GSXR 4:2:1 Yoshi, 0.340 Webcams, Accel coils, coil mod
Exhaust____4:1__________4:2:1
Type
Main jet_____140__________ 135
DJ needle__3 or higher_______ 2
Pilot jet_____47.5___________45
Pilot Air____stock?________stock?
A more normal jetting would probably be a 140 main (v.s. my 135) with the needle jet at 3 or higher (v.s .mine at 2). I'm attributing the leaner main and fatter needle setting to my 4:2:1 v.s. the more traditional 4:1. The 4:2:1 flows better at mid range but not quite the flow at the top end as compared to the 4:1.
