    Muffler selection for my GS450

    So I'm wanting to remove the (in my opinion) unattractive stock mufflers, and put something a little more in line with the cafe style I'm going for. I would like a bit more sound, but not obnoxious (it's a 450, how good can it sound opened up?). I'm sure it's not as simple as a removable outer body on the stock mufflers, right?
    I don't mind the upswept pipes, I just don't like the big mufflers and the tiny tailpipe in the end. I plan to wrap the exhaust with black header wrap, so super awesome gee whiz chrome is not necessary (I'm actually de-chroming the bike).
    So what is out there that will be a little more fitting of a cafe style bike, that isn't too expensive? I'd prefer to not have to re-jet if I can avoid it. I like the look of drag pipes or cocktail shakers the most.

      Is it open like a glass pack or are there baffles?

      Either way some jetting will be required.

      The little Turdly mufflers make my 650 run very rich, and very slow.

      It would take big jet changes to get it right, but I'd rather jet it for a pipe that would improve performance, not cork it up.

        I couldn't agree more. I'm not one to sacrifice performance for a look. Comfort, perhaps. But not performance.

          I saw someone get some Dunstall style slip ons on here but I don't know where they sourced them... for a real nice sound though to keep in line with the them, you probably want a reverse megaphone...

            Dimecity has Dunstall pipes to.Long(28in)ones like I have and shorter ones to.Might want to look at those Sinister.

                I'm surprised nobody mentioned the MAC 2-1 exhaust. It's about the only bolt-on aftermarket exhaust still available for our 450's... black or chrome



                Check it out here, though you may find a better deal elswhere (i didn't look around)

                    Cone Engineering makes nice mufflers and they make a lot of the cans other companies sell. You can get a mice one for like 80 bucks. For example Lossa rebrands and sells them for over $100.

                          So I'm thinking of doing a shorty style muffler. Where would be the best place to cut the stock mufflers off? Does it make a difference? Obviously it will have to be back far enough to mount the mufflers correctly, but I'm wondering if the header pipe length affects power.
