    82 GS450 - Possibility for bigger tire?

I am curious if anyone has tried to put a SLIGHTLY wider swingarm on the GS450 to accomodate a slightly wider tire. The stock tire doesn't provide the stability and braking that I'd like. Don't want to do a major mod, nor want a fatboy look... Just thinking of something a little bigger than stock.

    Thanks!

    A GS450 L with a 120/90 tire you mean?

Could get a spoked hub from another 450 model and lace up a wider rim.......

Depends on what you are starting with. the L models have a 120/90R16 on them, but E and S models were a 110/90R18 (If I can recall correctly). Fair number of people put a 130/80R16 on the L simply because finding a decent 120/90R16 tire is a pain, and the 130 went on easy enough.

If you go wider than a 130 you will likely need a wider swing arm, although it should still clear the chain upto about a 150. If you do put on a 140 or 150, and you aren't planning on cruising, I would also recommond a wider front tire, especially if you are on an E or S. the guys are your local shop should be able to make some recommendations.

You sliding your rear tire because you are cornering so hard? What kind of tires are you using?

BTW, when braking hard about 90% of the braking force comes from the front tire.

After digging around the previous posts, I want to say it's for an 82 Gs450T with a 110/90-17 tire on a spoke wheel. Usually, Suzuki put the absolute largest tire they could on the stock wheel, but you could lace up a wider hoop (and maybe even a different diameter if the tire selection is greater).
