I guess my preference comes from Adventure riding. Almost every new-to-me bike that I didn't disable those items eventually stranded me in the middle of nowhere and I did a field strip.

On the clutch safety switch, you just connect the two wires together right, to make the closed connection. Aah never mind I found the thread.Last edited by mrbill5491; 01-30-2013, 12:28 PM.sigpicMrBill Been a GSR member on and off since April 2002

Got a chance to weigh the two stands yet? I'm getting really into all of these used part retrofit weight savings ideas. -90lbs +10lbs bigger tires, fork brace, twin disc, & frame bracing. 80 lbs lighter is like adding 8hp to my engine & will make the bike handle better as well... my buddy reminded me, "wow, 8hp is A LOT in terms of a motorcycle...!"'77 GS750 920cc heavily modded

I had to go to my butcher to weigh the side stands
Standard GS 1000 with spring: 1035 grams
Standard Hornet 600 ( 2nd gen) with spring and switch: 975 grams
Not a big difference for sure...sigpicJohn Kat
