    Crankcase Model D or Z?

    Guys,

I'm putting the engine back together on my 82 GS1100EZ. When I look up some OEM parts I need to specify Crankcase Model D or Z. Does the Z at the end of the bike model number refer to the crankcase model? If not, how do I know?

btw, I haven't checked in for a while and my account got deleted hence the newbie status...

    Thanks!

It denotes year. The 1982 model was an "EZ" and the '83 model was an "ED". Hope that helps. The big difference you'll see is the engine color, black for '83, aluminum for '82, but there are other differences, cam's, clutch, carbs, etc.

Thanks for this but I'm still confused by the following microfiche links. The first one refers to an 82 GS1100 Crankcase Model Z and the second one is for an 82 GS1100 Crankcase Model D. Same year...

The part I'm interested in (the oil temp sensor) is listed as a different part number for the Z and D Crankcases
