    1982 GS750T - Needs an Airbox

    Hi friends -

First I want to thank you for creating this forum, this is truly an amazing resource. I just bought a beautiful mint green GS750T That had running issues (For $750!!) I've been consulting your pages for weeks now!

The previous owner had swapped out the airbox for pod filters (really crummy filters at that). They had also rejetted it - but may have done it wrong. The bike nearly impossible to start without starting fluid, but when it runs it runs well. Between 4-6k RPM's there is a dead spot which makes me think the previous owner did not lift the needles.

When I was synching the carbs I realized that the bike just EATS gasoline. Rather than lift the needles and buy good pods I'm thinking of just going back to completely stock. Everything I've read makes it seem like running pods is a nightmare - I've already experienced the cross draft problem on the freeway, bike almost died with a big gust of wind!

Barring any other suggestions from the community about what I should do, Do any of you have a stock airbox I can buy off of them?

I'm grateful for your help and guidance! Many thanks!

Welcome to GSR fellow T owner.
That's a nice lookin' bike you have there.
The paint scheme is cool, I like it.
Have you ever thought about putting white wall tires on it?

Be sure to make a post in the T owners photo thread!

This is a list of bikes with identical air boxes.
While not impossible to find, T air boxes aren't very plentiful!
It's 5 am here right now but a little later I'll dig out the list of stock jets for you.

      EDIT: Here's the carb specs.

Welcome! Sweet lookin' "T". So you need the entire Airbox??? Primary & Secondary? I don't see the primary with the chrome cover and it's hard to tell if you have the secondary because it's hidden under the seat. (Funny what previous owners do to bikes)

Please do post your "T" on the thread suggested by Tank.

I bet the post cost would be outrageous! At least $20-$30. I'm looking for the secondary airbox (the one with the air filter).

I'm installing my rear air box today in fact.
Should be firing the old girl up, working my way through the harness with contact cleaner and dielectric grease, adjusting the valves and hopefully fixing my valve cover oil leak.
My driveway is too icy and rear tire too bald to ride her though.

You call it a rear airbox....I've been calling it a secondary airbox...same, same.

I hope the weather improves rather quickly for you Tank...it's 83F in Dover!

Lots of riders on the street right now...half of which ride w/o gear.

Ride safe when you're out on the road Tank.

EDIT: OP...I might have a spare front airbox/primary airbox...the one with the chrome covers. Hit me up if it's what you need.

Thanks a bunch for your thoughts. I need both the front and rear airboxes - the entire thing airbox assembly is gone. Any ideas where to get some?

This is INCREDIBLY helpful. Do you know all of this off the top of your head?!

I bought 4 T&L carb rebuild kits - should they have come with the right jets? I'll have to check again.

Thank you thank you thank you!

Is there any way you can cancel the order for the kits? You don't need them and they do not work well. Please read up on the rebuild procedure before you toss away any more funds.

I already bought them and installed them (minus the jets). The float seats were all bad so it seemed necessary.

Nope, I know it from reading basscliffs site.
                      And then re-reading basscliffs site.
Then searching the forum a couple times.
                      And then re-re-reading basscliffs site.
Then doing more forum searches, lol.

Oh, and I own a 750T as well.

I don't know a good jet vendor as I've never ordered any before but off the top of my head I would say give Z1 a call.

As for rebuilding carbs, the only parts you would normally have to replace is the O-rings.
Mr. Barr here on GSR sells the best set put together specifically for your carbs, and they come complete.
He also sell hex head bolts for the caps and bowls, makes it a whole lot easier to work on than those damn phillips head bolts that are in there now.
                      His website is Cycle O-rings

Sometimes you may need bowl gaskets, but not usually.

Most of the time the jets and other parts in rebuild kits are close to stock, but not exact, and often not uniform with each other.
They will cause you to be chasing for tail for days trying to figure out why your bike won't run right.

Best bet is to check whats inside your carbs, then check what's supposed to be in them, and replace the incorrect parts with the correct ones.

I only have one part of the Airbox and it's the one directly behind the carbs. My second "T" is missing the "Air Filter" portion but I'm in no hurry to get one.

Let me know if you're interested in obtaining part of the AirBox.

You can run the bike without the secondary 'air filter' portion missing? Doesn't it run rich? Isn't it dangerous to run the bike without an air filter?

Can't run it without both...I happen to have a spare "Inlet AirBox" but no filter airbox. I'm accumulating parts as time goes by. You'd have to acquire that part like I do for my second "T".

My second "T" is NOT operational at the moment. But my first "T" IS operational and has both AirBoxes.

Didn't mean to confuse...you must run the bike with both airboxes.

If you get the air box thing sorted out and need a set of chrome let me know. I bet it would really set of the paint on that sharp machine. Thanks for sharing your project.
