    GSXR1100 Slingshot Carb Conversion

    Hi Guys,
As the title says, looking at swapping these carbs (BST36SS) onto an otherwise standard GSX1100SZ, apart from 4 into 1. My question is will the standard jetting get me on the road?

I will have oval K&N filters fitted. The carbs are apart at the moment and look in pretty good condition, and I am just going through them replacing all of the orings and will reset the float height before I put them back on. from what I have read in other posts it is necessary to lower the fuel level a couple of mm to avoid flooding.

You will need, at a MINIMUM, adjustable needles. A jet kit would be better. Ray.

Ray, how do the Dyno jet needles/emulsion tubes work (DJ-3136) for the 89-92 GSXR 1100 work compared to the Factory Pro needles and stock emulsion tubes?

At some point after Bill gets a stock 1100 setup we are going to put the WBO2 sensor on a pods/pipe/BST36SS setup and see how it tunes. See if we can get come calibrations relative to the BS36

        Yes!
The float heigth is hard to obtain without modifying the tang on the float. These carbs (BST) were meant to be mounted at an angle. Look at the float bowl.
I set a rack up for a guy but he has yet to mount them. My notes on this project are at home but I'll post them when I return.
The problem with these carbs is the slide guides wear out and wallow out the emulsion tube. I have even seen some needles that had a hook shape. If Jim still has that link I sent him you can still purchase them new but not from Suzuki.

I noticed one of our members (Mike?) has posted on his website http://www.theflyingbanana.com/ some detail on this mod. The way I read this initially was just raising the needles to the 4th groove and it was plug and play with the standard jetting but then re-read this page and noticed he talks about DJ needle with spacer washer and 150 mains. The standard mains are 123.5 in my carbs.

On Rays advice in previous threads I have emailed Aarc at Factory pro for guidance and am waiting on a response.

I am hopeful of getting a good baseline on this, from what I can see on these carbs there appears to be minimal wear.

Marc from factory pro has responded indicated that CRB-S09-3.0 would be the best option.

Had to go to three different shops today to try and track down the metric viton o-rings. None of them stock metric and have to order them in.

Would love to, but I am in Aus.

                Cheers,

I have rebuilt the carbs with the o-rings described at http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthr...BST36SS+orings

So far so good. Starts cleanly and holds a good idle with no fuel leaks. Hopefully I can take it for a quick ride tomorrow.

It appears that given the free play in the throttle, I assume that the cable inner is a little long, and needs shortening slightly. Can anyone confirm??

                  Thanks,

                  Jon.

What throttle cable are you using with the slingshot carbs? Standard gs1100 is to long.

What did you set the float heigth at?

When I did this mod on my 83 1100E, I installed new jets, 142.5 and set the floats at 6mm. I bent the tang that the throttle cable attaches to make up the slack in the cable itself. I made a choke pull out of a universal choke kit cable, cut down to the distance needed to make it function properly. Very happy.
