    GS1150 intake cam on GS1100

I've got a set of GS1150 camshafts that I want to put in my 83' GS1100. However, since the exhaust camshaft doesn't have the tachometer wormgear pinion, I'm thinking of switching in only the intake camshaft and leaving the exhaust alone. Is this okay to do? Will this make the engine run like crap by messing up the valve lift timing?

It will work fine only using the 1150 intake cam with the 1100 exhaust cam. Ray.

I hate to revive such an old thread, but I'm looking at doing this same swap (85 1150 cam and 83 exhaust cam) to keep my tach, but my question is, is there any power benefits to using this combination over just using the 1983 gs1100 intake and exhaust cams together?

Why not use both and get an electronic tach

The question would still remain: is there a power advantage?

Yes, the 1150 intake cam will make more power. Or less if you don't degree it in the right place.

Ray, how should they be degree'd? What numbers we talking about? 108, 109?

I would rather trust my bike to a technician that reads the service manual than some backyardigan that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix things.

Depends on the use. Street, drag race or what?

This is an interesting thread! I could buy a set of used 1150 cams for my 80 1100 which has some minor porting and a set of 36 mm flatslides for far less than a set of aftermarket cams. My question is how much of a power diff. is there between the 2 choices?

108 & 106, exhaust & intake. Good top end & strong midrange with those #s.

You will see more power with a set of .348 Web Cams or G-4 Cam Motions but the 1150 cams will make NOTICEABLE power.
