There was a lot of discussion on this a while back... plenty of info in the archives if you can find it
Some did it by hand, others reamed it, others made adapters, others made a new plate & welded it etc etc.1980 GS1000G - Sold

I just went crazy, drilled the frame out and got lucky. But I reckon the safest way (without high tech gear) is to tap the holes to 16mm and then ream. This will give you a better chance to keep it all aligned.-Mal

I just drilled the frame out to the 20mm swingarm bolt that I needed to use the Bandit swingarm.
I am a human drill press No all kidding aside It is not hard to get it straight when it has a pilot hole already.

1980 GS 750E Bought new in Feb of 1980
2015 CAN AM RTS
Stuff I've done to my bike:dancing: 1100E front end with new Sonic springs, 1100E swing arm conversion with new Progressive shocks installed, 530 sprockets/chain conversion, new SS brake lines, new brake pads. New SS fasteners through out. Rebuilt carbs, new EBC clutch springs and horn installed. New paint. Motor runs strong.
