The ongoing question. I will say it again. I have tore down three 1983 GS1100ESD engines. Two from USA and one Canada. None had welded cranks. A friend on mine who still runs the 83 engines echoed the same findings. Others claim different. One guy posted and article that stated they were welding them at the factory in 83. Not a big deal to have yours welded if it isn't.

About midway through the 1982 model year , Suzuki began welding the crankpins and flywheels. This procedure prevents crankshaft twisting , that is, misalgnment arising from the flywheels slipping relative to their orignal stations with the pins. Pins are welded on interior as well as exterior faces. Source, Ian Smith Information. Hope this helps.

The later models are welded but not as falicon would. If you have one out it still needs welding in several more areas.

Yes there is conflicting reorts to what years have welded cranks but!
You can get your crank welded for $56.00 from Falcon.

My engine no. is 169494 and it has a semi-welded crank stock. But had it full welded since the rod-pins were not. The bike and engine is a -83.

From the Suzuki factory only the crank pins either side of the primary drive gear were welded and only from mid 82 on.

I have an '81, an '82, and an '83 1100 and the only one that was welded was the '83. These were all virgin motors, never been opened as far as I could tell. I assumed that all '83's were welded? I guess not.
