    Racing fuels

Jake, I can get 100LL gas at the airport, but after running it in my car/bike should I immediately run some regular 89 (usual Hitest with 10% Ethanol) instead of 87 octane through my car/bike befor I just park it here at home? I'm not a straight line driver...but I thought it might be cool to see just how consistant my times might be...

    Fuel

If you are talking about 100 octane fuel it should be all right to leave in in youre tank. Methanol attacks alloy but you are not using this are you? I run 100 octane mixed with hi-octane fuel mixed at 50/50 to control pinging in my engine which works well but a bit illegel on aussie roads

      JUST 100octane

No racing methanol...just aircraft gas 100Low Lead...

ZX that is some really dry fuel. It is made to burn at high altitude. Honestly for no more than you save just go get some 100+ octane racing fuel.

          Fuel

The 100 octane i was talking about is the shell racing stuff which $2.15 a litre against 89 cents a litre for the hi octane unleaded road stuff. Sorry about the confusion 8O

It all depends on what cams you are using and what the compression ratio is for your engine. If it is stock I would use what the manufacturer recommends. If you have alot or miles on your bike and the pistons are carbon up causing pinging then i would try higher octan.

I run G4 with 13.5 to 1 pistons, I've tried 110 and 103 VP fuels and the biked ran faster with 103. So far no pinping or detonation with 103 so I'm going to try just 93 octan just to see if it pings or runs faster. If it does I'll play with the timing.

Remember that the higher the octan the slower the burn so in a stock bike I would expect to see a loss in power (timeslip) at the track but on the street you may not notice it except for the size of your wallet.

As for airport fuel they should be able to tell your whats in their fuel, like additives and if it's harmful for your bike. I would think if it works in a piston airplane then it should be okay if you wanted to try it and should'nt require any drain or purge after you use it.

The best test is to try different fuel's at the track and compare timeslips and pick a fuel with the best results. There's over 30 different types of racing fuels so picking one may take alittle time. Good Luck

If you are buying JP8 then that tell's me you got a turbine in that bike so pinging should'nt be a problem .

Just remember that aviation 100LL has "ALOT" of lead in it. Do Not use it in a car with a catylitic converter. You will clog it up.

Nothing but a Pcv a little valve from the manifold to the valve cover...headers and 2 3/4" exhaust with dual Midas Turbo Gold Mufflers and a single cross-over in front of the mufflers...purrs nice and has a lope with nice tone to it...I don't race just add the LL for keeping the regular fuel juiced up///

Sharpy, I've seen pictures in Australia where you have to run aircraft gas in all vehicles. This is because you can't sniff it to get high. "No Grog"
