Also, I see that the new badges have tape and the 'stems' the poke through the panel do not have a groove for a c-clip. I thought they had c-clips to help retain them.

Side panel Badge alignment
For some reason it has always bothered me a little bit that the panel badge is not parallel to the ground when moving. So I am gong to drill another hole (after using a laser level to get a true straight line) so I can mount some new badges I just got. Anyone else done that? I don't see any references to it in the forums.
Also, I see that the new badges have tape and the 'stems' the poke through the panel do not have a groove for a c-clip. I thought they had c-clips to help retain them.:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I guess it might be just me, but I would prefer to have the badges horizontal at rest...when someone looking at the bike can actually see them.
nevertheless, the badges on the sidepanels of my 650 have retainers, but they are pretty well fixed and I wouldn't refer to them as "c" clips (i.e. easily removable)'83 GS650G
'83 GS550es (didn't like the colours in the 80's, but they've grown on me)

Mine are not horizontal at rest or moving....
I note also that my panels have 4 holes and the new badges have only 2 posts.:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

They are held on with speed nuts not E clips.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.
