1980 GS850 with BST36SS carbs pilot jet tuning

    1980 GS850 with BST36SS carbs pilot jet tuning

    I noticed recently that my GS850 is running a bit lean in the pilot circuit. It is running BST36SS carbs with Uni filters and a baffled 4 into 1. The main and needle circuits are perfect but Im getting some popping on deceleration that is more noticeable at night when the ambient temperatures go down as well as some very slight bogging. the fuel mix screw is turned 3 turns out already so its time to either go down 1 air jet size or up one pilot jet size. Im leaning towards going down one air jet size to keep the amount of fuel waste as little as possible. Is this the way to go or should I switch the pilot jets instead?

    BST36SS's are very large carbs for a 850, has the bike got some internal mods done or is it stock?

      As far as I know it's stock. It seems to work really well though.

        Not stock, stock is bs32 cv carbs, the ones you claim
        bst36 ss are stock gsxr carbs and are a flat slide cv carbs

          Right. I meant internally it seems stock although I didnt pull the head to check the size of the bore in the cylinders.. When I did the valve clearances the cams appeared stock. The carbs do work well with the bike and it doesn't feel overcarbed at all. Should I downjet the air jet or upjet the pilot jet to compensate for the lean condition on the pilot circuit?

            Can you post pics of the carbs ? What intake pipes do you have on the bike? Not sure 36's would fit stock the intake pipes.

              go up 1 step on the pilot still may not stop the decal lean misfire. might take 2 steps - and a clip level adjustment on your needle. -- what is in there? 45 or 47.5?

                Trip, don't those carbs typically have 32.5 pilots in them?

                  i've seen thirty and 32.5.

                    I think those sizes are stock 1100 pilots...
