oversized valves??? worth it or not?

    oversized valves??? worth it or not?

    The guy porting my head thinks I should install 1mm oversized valves.

    at a cost in the neighbourhood of 500.00 bucks.

    My question is...is the money worth the performance increase?? and by worth it I mean seat of the pants difference.

    a 1/4 sec. in the quarter is significant I know but that is not what this bike is being built for. I simply need something to get me too the laundry mat.

    I would think that $500 dollars spent on carbs or better brakes/wheels tyres would be money better spent. The valve oversize is more a marginal difference compared to cams and pistons and porting.

      It sounds like a wonderful way for him to make money!!!!
      Oversize valves are a waste of time on a street motor, unlees you are talking seriously BigBored.

        Pretty much what I thought. It is in the turn out your head light when you race because every 7 watts is a hp. range of things.

        He is't making much money on it because he said once it is in the milling machine it makes no diff it is set and a way he goes.

        but I think the 1166 kit, flatslides, port/pollish, degreed cams, dyna ignition/coils and header will wake her up enough.

        as for suspention 93 gsxr 1100 forks and wheels are going on. So I think I will put that money towards rear shocks....if I can find any. that is my last weak link.

        I not concerned about shaving 10ths off of my lap time. Only having one burger before the race will do that. lol

          For $500 I would go the Nitrous route and you'll feel it in the pants too.

            It should make 125 HP as it is. I would say no just run the stock valves with good springs.

              I put 2mm larger intake valves in my Triumph. It made a difference, but for what you are trying to accomplish, I think I could find better ways to spend the money.

                Personally I like to run 1mm over valves. Without being done properly on a serdi(where the seat is opened up all the way down to the aluminum) it is useless. Of course you will need the camshafts and carbs to go with it. On a 1150 it makes a huge difference with proper porting. I`ve seen many people just put a set of oversize valves in and never take full advantage of them. Proper spring setup is a must also.

                  Oversized Valves

                  This depends on what ever you are using it for....if you drag race, its the way to get horsepower along with compression, cams and right match of carbs to the capacity of the motor...more air more power!

                  Porting and oversize valves works if the job is done right.

                  Street use...replace your air filter and add dry nitrous oxide kit.
