you know the game if you been around as long as i have.
building a 5-6 grand engine that's worth 2-2500 after you start it is crazy in my book.
hell there is deals on complete drag bikes now a days..crazy times!

I was looking at your .345 intake cam you have for sale for my stock head GSX1100 just to see what it would pick it up but I was scared off when you said it has some life left.
Even when buying from friends. You just never know the shape the parts are in until you look. If I bought a used built motor from someone I would tear it down to make sure it was what it was supposed to be and not on the verge of blowing up. That being said I have bought motors from junk yards that ran great and never opened them up except for basic maintenance. But when dealing with the internet and all you see is pics then it could be a crap shoot. I have been a miser my whole life always using used parts on all my bikes when I can. Even my bracket bike I am building with used parts and I still don't think I could sell it for what some guy are selling their bike for. That is crazy but I don't plan on selling any of my bikes I am having to much fun building them. I used to just have one bike and then I keep taking the motor apart over and over to make it faster and faster. Then I realized that I really wanted different bikes for different uses.
I am building a GSXR1100 motor that I am using all new internal parts for to go in my 02 Bandit 1200. I have been collecting parts for it for years now. I have everything but the parts for the head and cams, and carbs. It is going to be a 1340cc 13 to 1 street bike sleeper with Bandit 600 badging. even with the deals I have got on the parts I am going to be over well 5g's the big block for long rods and JE pistons was a pretty penny. But I hoping for some big HP from this build and it will be my last for myself.

I have a VFR 800 as my daily/commuter. Would rather have the GS for a super fun occasional street bike, and some drag too. Maybe LSR (would like to do a 200mph standing mile no turbo)

Used parts is an option for sure, but finding a used engine that could be ridden on the street will be hard. Most of the ones I have seen go up for sale are super high comp.

How do I know? I can see it in the data. 3rd gear pull to close to redline
Starts to slip at about 8.5K RPM and then catches again 9.5K rpm

I think they are Blue, but not sure. I did all of mine since 2008 probably the same as Bill. It is still a stiff clutch and it is telling me that without a lockup clutch it doesn't do much good to try and get much power.

I'm not sure about my clutch but pretty sure it was a stock 1100ED in good shape.

10 plate...steel backed fibers that looks like someone hammered over sheet metal where they engage in the basket..that would be OEM for 831100E/ES only.
a lock up is the sheet...you can run springs sooooo soft.
that should be on your "to do" list..

              Are lockups completely streetable?

Can you comment on how they feel different? Not sure that the 1229 I will build this year would need one, but ...

you can run lighter than stock springs...super easy clutch pull.

On a street motor with ANY kind of hp, 140 or more, I feel a lock up is as much a requirement as a welded clutch hub & crank. Just makes life so much easier on your left hand & you can get AGGRESSIVE launching the thing!!! An RBD cover looks good on a street bike too!

Looks like I'll be buying a lockup clutch along with a modified basket, then.

the RBD cover is awesome but it cost as much as the lock up does
i have a lockup spacer that i had an external clutch cable mount made for.
this is so you can run your clutch cable outside of the bike away from heat and bends....super smooth cable action...does the same thing as the RBD cable kit...plus i have 2 RBD cable kits listed.
it's in my stuff for sale just in case

This attitude seems to be surprising popular here and that's something what I don't get. This forum is called "The GS Resources" and this is "Performance/Tuning/Mods" section after all.

                                Sorry for rant...
