R1 throttle upgrade

I'm going to be replacing the grips on my bike, and already have the left side off to switch out the clutch perch, so I figured I would go ahead and get new grips. I also thought, why don't I just upgrade to the R1 throttle as well so I don't have to put the grip on twice? But is this upgrade worth the extra money? I don't want to do the $1 mod because I'm picky about cheap fixes. The throttle I would want is a 2000-2004 R1 throttle tube correct? How easy is this to switch out? Thanks!

no negative issues thus far

very easy to do, take off the old and put on the new, grip on the left only, tube and grip and the right, use some hairspray when installing new grips, this will glue em in place once it dries

I didn't use the cheap fix, I needed new grips anyways.......

The quick, and cheap fix worked well enough for me, and 2 years down the road has not caused any issues...

I don't want to do the $1 mod because I'm picky about cheap fixes.

How about low cost, high value mods that work just fine? It's your money and your bike, but I think it is foolish to spend more just to achieve the same thing in the end.

It's actually not as good, as you can't adjust the throttle pull. You are stuck with whatever the R1 engineers decided on.

But if spending $30 instead of 30 cents makes you feel better go for it.

It looks like the current tube has some sort of adhesive for the old grip on it, how hard are old grips to get off? Just cut it off, and clean the tube for re-application? Also, can you see the pvc pipe when looking at it, or is it hidden?

Also, when I was reading the $1 mod thread, it said that it would be 20% harder to twist, which I don't want. I want a nice, easy, and smooth twist, like a brand new bike has. I love when a throttle is quick, easier on the wrist.

can of WD40 and stick the straw it comes with between the rubber and the bar/tube give it a good spray and in a few spots and it will loosen it, should be able to slide off, or use an air compressor and put air between the rubber and bar/tube, or just cut them off, and install new grip, new tube/grip, don't forget the hairspray

Unlike the $1 mod, I understand that they have a R1 throttle tube does defies the laws of physics (smooth and silky); those smart Yamaha engineers.
