Electronic speedometer pick-up from gearbox front sprocket?

I believe the GSXR 1000's from 2003/4 used a hall sensor pick-up located in the engine sprocket cover?
Can anyone confirm if this is correct and better, send a few pictures to see how it is done?
The purpose would of course be to use a modern speedometer like the one used on this GSXR model : http://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gsx-r100...9.html#results
Beyond that it would greatly facilitate the use of 18" GSXR first gen front wheels in the GS 1000 OEM forks.
Fitting the speedometer pick-up should be easy with a racing type sprocket cover as fitted on my GS 1000 ST

Some of the Bandit 1200's used them as well. Not sure of the years - I think it was the 2nd generation (pre water-cooled).
    Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )

    Past:
    VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....
