    GS 750 Exhaust question

Hey Guys, I have a 78 GS 750 and have been looking for a 4-1 exhaust for a while now but without much luck.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but from what I have read is that a GS 850 with VM carbs 4-1 exhaust will fit but not one with CV carbs?

Also can someone clarify that a 4-1 exhaust header from a 1000 will fit but not the tail section?

So my question is, who has used or modified a 1000 4-1 exhaust to fit a 750? Where there any clearance issues on the head pipe? I assume that I will have to modify the rear or fabricate a hanger for the tail section, but that's not a problem.

    Cheers

i have a harris 4-1 on my gs, those where originally made for the 1000/1100 gs's. Head pipes fit, but because the 1000 engine is taller than the 7/850 engines they hang lower than stock. Haven't had any issues myself but other's have reported clearance issues, I also have some scrapes and small dents on the underside of the collector from previous owners hitting stuff but myself I haven't experienced that.

Thanks Spiff for the info, Josue I'd rather have my baffle less exhaust than a Mac system.

You can make different baffles & tail pipes for MAC headers ya know... I did this on mine. I have a Vance & Hines 750/850 exhaust now. I don't think the head makes a difference on the fit of a 79 850 exhaust and 80+ CV carb head 850 exhaust fitment.

Marving makes my favorite gs750 exhaust ever. Flat collector, upswept road pipe with long smaller diameter tailpipe like an old Yoshi, & minimal baffle. $500 & import duties from the UK or Italy.
Motad or someone else in the UK makes two different stainless 750 exhausts also. JAG posted a link a while back.

My all time favorite, wish I had one of these Marving S/07/BC upswept GS750 road racing pipes:

                    1977-1979 GS750
4/1 Racing complete S/07/BC system chromium plated NON homologated

They also make a Marving S/3504/BC flat collector megaphone style system for our bikes:

4/1 Master complete system chromium plated silenced NON homologated

These are truly excellent systems. Both mine have them fitted, and I was lucky enough to pick up one of them as remaindered NOS. No doubt about them lasting - more than 20 years on, there's not a crack or corrosion anywhere.
