3mm bore on stock 1150 cylinders-ball park price?

Curious what a reasonable price for this service would be including a hone afterwards?

I spoke with a shop locally about doing it, but the price seemed high or maybe not, not sure.

J&E was not around in my drag racing days. I was pleased with them when I built up a couple hayabusa's a few years ago other than the valve pockets being to small. Good balance on them.

I never ran stock valves in anything.....

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to do it locally to avoid shipping.

CBX, I had MTC's, but couldn't find a single piston replacement, so went cheap and got Wiesco's.
The skirt/top look identical, but the wrist pin area looks a bit crude.

50 a hole was around over 10 years ago..i have heard of some local machine shops charging 60.00-65.00 per hole.

we do that for $75 a bore - and includes a final ball hone, ring gap setting - Also like to taper the bottom of sleeve for easy installation over pistons with rings.

balancing, sandblasting, replacing sleeves are more and very possible.

I can get plated cylinders done too. dirt bikes, hayabusas etc...

Is that including 3mm on each or just one size overbore? Seems like a bit more work and material removed to do 3mm.

I cheat and go to a Marine Engine machine shop this time of year when they are dying for work. I pay $40 per hole.

since I am remedial let's spell it out 0.120 " gets removed (approx.) 4 maybe 6 passes each hole on a boring bar and then the power hone -- then the ball hone. since I assume you want to go from stock to the 3mm overbore (1229cc) all at once?

So what is that approximately 16~ 24 accurate cuts depending on how hard you push your cutter -moving and aligning it 4 times, wash it ,, and then clamp it in the sunnen power hone- moving and setting it up it 4 times --- wash it -- ball hone them out -- wash it oil it .... now get out the rings and precisely get the gap on 20 different rings...


yeah I doubt it gets done correctly for less that $300 ~ $500 bucks.

but stick with outboard boat/small engine / motorcycle machine shops -- big car shops or Harley shops will start rambling about torque plates and torqueing the cylinder as it gets cut -- blah blah distortion blah.

Sounds like it'll be around $50 a hole.
He's an accomplished flat-track mechanic, with some championships under his belt.

This starter clutch destruction is sure adding up, but oh well, looking forward to riding it again.

around here our prices are over double? man I feel kind of bad - small bike shop uses a small local machine shop - same day but usually 1 day turn around.

You guys have excellent pricing that can't be beat in todays economy. period. man that is hard to compete with, saving Dollars and Cents - makes sense- I agree..

now how long does it take in the middle of summer? that is the question -- us normal guys have used parts and need it yesterday - and the race starts day after tomorrow.

love the 1 stop parts store - waiting is something I have to manage .

It is mid January and there are about 20 blocks in here. WE are not just a machine shop, we sell pistons. That is the reason for the boring and honing equipment. We are Master WD for all aftermarket piston manufacturers. WE probably sell more pistons than anyone.
