Yes, indirectly though.. I ran the head for about 200 miles before I pulled it back off. When I removed the valves I noticed that an exhaust valve on cylinders 3 or 4 seemed to be getting hung up in the guide. Which made sense when I got a call from you guys that the valves were bent and needed grinding. Also the head bowed in the middle something like .018" (don't hold that against me). The head should of been resurfaced at the shop. All that aside, I know there is the installer variable. I could of had the timing wrong (stock), bent the valve, warped the head... All of that I doubt highly... I suppose it all comes down to expenses vs quality and quantity. I don't feel that my money was well spent. I want to walk away from a business deal feeling that I paid good money for a quality product, and above all quality service. I could of saved hundreds by not letting them grind casting seams...
You have my block right now.. Take care of it for me It's special!

I do not believe the story as told.

200 miles and indirectly? what exactly do you mean?

lets offer the facts- . a bent valve and warped head means none or minimal compression seal. no oil retention seal -- and you want us to believe you went 200 miles popping out the pipe popping out the side, puking oil all over and not holding a steady idle? c-mon man - who do you think you are fooling? if there was a problem it would have been immediate and called for immediate disassembly. and that would have been more believable. shucks a little solvent in the ports show a straight valve and a satisfactory lapping job.

IN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE and simply for reputation sake I have to believe No one at Ward would knowingly assemble a faulty product. - And again if your head was that severely warped no one at Ward would let it slide past -- even if you were a problem customer calling the shop 10 times a day needing hand holding-

I DO NOT BELIEVE YOUR STORY. Neilhan NOT ONE BIT. There has to be one or more factual details that you are omitting about the problems you are having.

now you are big jay's problem . hope they meet your "economic satisfaction" ... because you have taken the role of the judge and jury to persecute a reputation without providing any credible evidence that their work was unsatisfactory.

dissatisfied? after you damaged it in 200 miles ?!? good lord, let's discuss self accountability. you built it, you set the deck height, you torqued it down, you timed the cams, you ran the engine. it's your baby! end of story- not the last machine shop -

the rub is this= you went 200 miles and it's their fault the head warped and a valve bent? I rev my engines to 13K rpm so what did you do?

I do not believe a word about ward doing bad work. period. HOWEVER I would like to hear the other side of this story from the merchant-

ALSO let's examine your reputation who do you build engines for? who do you tune for? -since you stated you yourself can do better port work -you got to show me / that puts me over the edge -- From where I stand you talk the talk of an ignoramus - and should be ignored for obvious misrepresentation and defamation.

In directly meaning I removed all the valvetrain and had the head resurfaced locally before sending it to APE.

Wow man, you got your facts mixed up seriously! I never said anything about removing the head because there was a problem with it. YOU JUMPED TO THE CONCLUSION THAT I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE HEAD. Someone like you has very little emotional intelligence and make it a priority to get into confrontations with people. You keep that kind of crap up and you may have some shortcomings lined up for you..

These facts you are referring to are facts provided to me from APE.. They told me ALL the valves were slightly bent..

Another fact for you.. The bike had perfect symmetrical compression.. How does a bike have bent valves, but symmetrical compression... Let me guess the timing was off so minutely that it managed to do just enough damage to run perfectly.... Maybe it was from my imaginary adjustable cam sprockets. or maybe the TDC indicator from the stock rotor was off..

I don't need to build engines for anybody to offer the fact that I was displeased with my service. If you read my post I stated that THERE IS ALWAYS THE INSTALLER VARIABLE. I guess you missed that with your infinite wisdom. Maybe I installed it wrong, or torqued the head in an improper sequence or maybe the fiber head gasket was installed upside down ..

Before the fact, I noticed my multi-hundred dollar port cleaning. (which is what I had a problem with). After the fact of running the bike for 200 miles with a fiber gasket mostly in the later part of the day never to 9k redline. The head was bowed. How that happens I don't have a clue. Upon removing the valvtrain I noticed the resistance with the exhaust valve. After having the head resurfaced I sent the head to APE.. Which you say I'm burdening them with my business is a joke. I have only ever said good things about APE.

But, then again why am I explaining myself to you because last time I checked in my book.............. YOU are nobody! Carry your 13K revving ass somewhere else. You aren't messing with a rookie here buddy.

Larry Cavanaugh is a Kawasaki KZ specialist. Trevor and I have a buddy who took his 81 1000J engine to Cavanaugh. Both of us can attest to the performance of his bike, very impressive. http://www.cavanaughracing.com/
