1986 gs550l hard restarting

    1986 gs550l hard restarting

    cleaned carbs , all jets very clean . replaced all O-rings , trouble is starts great when cold don't even need choke ,idles around 800 rpm , ride it for hour no problems shut it off will not restart . cools down starts right up . could this be valve adjustment . thanks for any help

    hows yer battery? Could be a discharging battery.
    Mind you mine does have troubel starting on a hot day after a hot run.
    I awlays thought the carb bowls were evapping the fule and not filling.

    Maybe enrichen the idle screws a bit?

      battery is good I actually topped it off with acid and recharged while doing carbs ,have no trouble turning engine over

        how many turns out are your screws mine are 3 I think.

          r u talking about the 4 fuel flow needles ? mine r set 3 half turns (1 1/2 ) total , manual says air screws

            Have you checked the valves? I doubt it's the issue but it could be.

            This era of 550s had some issues with bad ignitors as well.

                yes by all means check the valves. That should have been done witht he carbs anyway.

                  I put new float valve in when I had carbs apart , I'm talking about checking engine intake and exhaust valves

                    To clarify, Jeep and I are just suggesting you check your valve clearances.

                    Unless you have reason to suspect there is a problem with the valves themselves (e.g. bent, etc) then you shouldn't have to pull them.
