    Blue Fuel

Was at the track Friday and went up to the gas station to buy one gallon of VP103 for 5 bucks. The guy fills his red 5 gallon container and say here you go. Well there's alot more than a gallon so I fill her up to the top and give it back to him.

The only think i notice besides the great deal on gas was that the color of the fuel was blue. So I think he gave me something with alitte more octan. My best et was a 6.71 so I'm thinking i lost a tenth or two with the blue fuel. Last time I tried VP110 I'd slowed down by 2 tenth's.

Crossing the 1/8 line my shift light would come on in 3rd gear. I'm thinking I need more gear so in a few days I should have my 46 rear sprocket and should be deep in 4th gear when I cross the line.

Haven't we been over this before, how octane does not mean power?

The 87 octane I use is also blue. Not quite sure what you mean.

You can learn a box load just by calling VP...They will discuss your application and help you pick the right fuel...If you ask 10 people about fuel, you will have 10 different fuels to pick from..Go to the source. They have agreat handout with all fuels listed and basic applications. Ask for that too.

Bill has it right. I always loved sunoco race fuels. I ran turbo nitrous and they has a pro mod fuel that was great. 10 years ago it was 9 bucks a gallon 8O

You probably already know this, but there is more to the fuel than just octane...Fuels for nitrous, turbo, supercharged etc.

We used C16 on the bottle and VP Red w/o nitrous.

The only point I was making was I paid 5 bucks for 103 and got 3 gallons of VP Blue fuel instead. We were talking about different types of fuel and I guess he just grapped the wrong nozzle. So next Friday I'll drain my tank and get me another 3 gallons on 103 (the clear stuff) for about 5 bucks.

That race gas question is a pain. I tried some vp once (smelly stuff). Nobody there knew what they were talking about. They just handed me a pamphlet with the fuel descriptions so I could pick.

Jake I would keep going back to the same guy. 5 gallons for $5.00. You better watch over your shoulder for the gas police.

I drained my tank again and went to the track and bought some more 103 gas and it was blue again, so I asked the guy whats up and he said their adding blue dye to it too. I said OK just wanted to know cause I ran my fast'est time tonight and just wanted to make sure what fuel I was getting.

So add another blue to the list. I think they are just trying to match the fuel to the color of their barrels.

See, one more reason to make the switch. Methanol is clear like water. I mix in Sunoco's Alky additive which turns it a nice blue.

Oh my gosh even methanol come in blue too.

OK Lecroy if I was to use methanol what do I need to change; carbs, jets, fuel tank.

How much power are we talking here.

They add the blue or red solution to the methanol to make a visible burn and to offer some lubrication (ya, right). Jake, I would go ahead and switch it over. You'll get a couple tenths of performance (1320) and you will find it will run more consistent. Jet it fat as a pig and never worry about it again. If it won?t build any heat, it?s too fat but it will run cold anyway. Just change your oil after every track day. I got a mint set of 40mm alcohol trons with stacks and throttle assembly I let go for $500. I am going a different route.

This is the best part, for your setup, None!! Well, almost none.

Methanol is about 9,000 BTUs / Lb. compared to gasoline at about 18,000 BTUs / Lb. or about half. Figure you burn gasoline at about 12:1 fuel/air mixture. Methanol will run around 5:1 fuel air. So it's a bit more energy in the Methanol mix. Cooling the charge will also have more effect on Methanol than gasoline. I have heard power gains as high as 10%.

Not much, so why do it? The answer is simple. It smells good. No, really it's the basic problem that gasoline is unstable under pressure. Hence the racing fuels. Methanol can run at a lot higher pressures with out any problems. Higher pressure means more energy available. I lost an engine years ago on gasoline. The plugs melted into the head!

You would need to jet the bike much much much higher. Maybe so big that the intake needle and seat would need to change. Beyond this depends. You may be able to just run it. You would need to be VERY careful not to let the stuff sit in the engine. I flush out the whole system at the end of the day. I tried using it in my old red bike for a while and my tank ended up in bad shape. I was not so careful back then to keep things cleaned out and I paid for it.

For what your doing, I would actually stay with gasoline. Easy to come by. Easy to start. Easy to maintain.
