timing all wrong
Hello, I am new to the forum. I am working with my son to get his newly acquired 78 GS750E in tune. The bike starts right up but doesn't idle as smooth as it should "in my opinion". When I set the "F" mark for 1-4 to the proper position, the points are open no matter where I have the points plate set in it's slots. I should be able to adjust them so they are just beginning to open. When I check with timing light the"1-4 F" mark is nowhere near the sight window. When I check "2-3 F" mark with a timing light it is in time. We thought it might be as easy as flipping the point cam 180 degrees but it will not even start if I do that. Any Ideas? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.Last edited by Guest; 02-28-2016, 08:41 PM.Tags: None

The points gap is set at .014. For some reason 1-4 timing can not be obtained with out removing the three points plate mount screws. Yet 2-3 are in time. It's like it's the wrong point plate or something.

Is there a way to know if our bike should have the ND or KD points set up? Wondering if previous owner put wrong parts on it.
