Fork tube upgrades? Swap newer stanchions & internals?

I was looking into WERA Rules in regards to my GS425 and Rickman CR900 builds, and got some ideas...
The Formula 500 class which the GS425 could race in has a 38mm limit on fork tube diameter.
That rules out the 43mm RF900R (shorter adjustable rebound bandit type) cartridge forks... they also have a 12" max diameter limit (304.8mm) on rotors. That rules out 37mm GS500 forks running stock GS500 brakes...
I was wondering if anyone has ever tried anything like swapping the lighter/shorter GS500 37mm stanchion tubes into a set of GS850/1000 lowers/sliders? That would allow me to run dual 296mm rotors like Salty Monk's setup and have no hassle with getting a GS axle to fit a different fork.

I was also thinking that I really like the look of the GS style forks (& bandit/rf900r forks etc), but I have these Honda Superhawk VTR1000F 41mm forks here that I started thinking didn't fit in cosmetically with my bike theme.
If I could get racetech to supply some obsolete bushings for the long travel gs1100gk 41mm forks, I wondered if swapping the entire stanchions and cartridges would be a very do-able swap?
