I don't care much for rebuilding some GS calipers, especially the 2v 750's!!!
I did this on a budget build for a buddy, & after all that time and 3 bikes worth of old parts to pick tge best from, I was very angry at myself for not just upgrading and doing Salty's Twinpot Mod... so easy to rebuild those.

For master cylinders...that's about the ONLY thing on a bike that I really really do not like to rebuild. What a pain... takes very specialized long reach ultra skinny high quality snap ring pliers, first off...

The 550 calipers are do-able, but the twinpot mod (look in performance upgrades section) is soooooooo much more worth giving your time to, those calipers are a breeze...sliding 2 piston design. Stops WAY BETTER, too.

Stainless line and new pads on good deglazed rotors will make the stock ones work decent though.

I rebuilt the caliper on our gs550 project this past weekend. The cost was only a few bucks since I ordered the boot and o-ring from Bikebandit. The hardest part was getting the boot in the caliper correctly.

My tip: Slide the boot on the piston at the bottom. Install the lower section of boot which goes in the groove of the caliper. I used a set of giant channel locks to compress the piston in the bore. As the piston bottoms the top section will seat in the groove of the piston. I would suggest lubrication the piston, oring and bore with brake fluid before attempting.
