    The reason why odometer stopped

My odometer stopped working just before winter storage, but the speedometer works fine. Opening the speedo house and this is the reason. Lots of wear and tear

Whoa! I'm curious as to how many miles you have on the odometer.

Only 68000KM or about 42250 miles. Not much, I’ll guess it was starving for some lubricants 😜

The odometer/speedo is the same on my 82 1100E. The speedo works fine but the odometer is frozen at a bit over 29,000km. It was that way at least 2 owners prior to me and I bought it in 2004. I fixed the problem on mine by installing a Trailtech Vapor computer. It works so well I am planning on removing the OEM gauge cluster and adding a small fly screen to fill the space from the OEM gauges.

I think it was lubricated when it left the factory in 82, but the time and temperature has evaporated it. It just shows that its not enough to lube in the speedowire connection, you must actually open the speedo house.

Indeed! but that's ^^the worst I've seen! and I've taken several apart . usually there are traces of lubricant grease....and true-I've never seen any oil that I put at the cable end actually get inside the gauge. It could be bad if it did, drying on the spring or messing up the gauge face...

But I hate to take these apart . I would not tell anyone to take these apart BEFORE a problem occurred but maybe we should, because they are getting hard to find as originals
