    Which Cams?

    I use my bike for fun on the road and track days now and then. It is a GSX1100 '82.
    I have already;
    "cleaned up" the head. Dialled in the stock cams, Fitted 36mm carbs and individual K&N filters. Overbore to 1170cc. It is putting out 126bhp.
    I now plan to do some more work over the winter. I would like to get more power so next step seems to be new cams, but which ones?
    I do not mind loosing a little low end power to gain at the top - can anyone recommend cams and give me an idea of the power trade off for different cams.
    I see some companies offer re-grinds which are cheap. Do these work well - do they effect valve/valve seat life?

    GSX1100EF cams were the hot option at the time and very little trade off involded.

      I'm happy with my G4 cams.

      Have you change the gearing yet?

        G4 cams - but is that for the drag strip?
        I have a 17" rear wheel so gearing is diffent anyway. It is currently geared for 147mph at the red line - so that is fine for ion the road.

          I have the G4 cams as well, and do mostly street riding commuting back and forth to work. With the occasional blast on the strip. Great Cams.

            I put in a set of 325 lift megacycle cams this year. I dont really notice much difference over stock cams. I'm going to switch to 348 lift. I think that is the g4. My understanding was always that the regrinds are better than the billet ones. They are stronger. I think it was megacycle that recomends re-grinds for their larger race cams.

              G4 cams it is then - thanks for the recomends.
              Are the G4 from Web Cam?
              Can anyone recomend the best place to order them (I am in the UK but happy to oredr from USA if cost effective)

              I understood that that re-ground cams tend to have a very fast lift and shut - thus put more wear on the rockers, valves etc.

                  For the street try EFE cams which are basically stage 1 endurance items.

                    In the UK, Kent cams will be the lowest cost . They have some good stuff

                    I would most likely use more duration on the intake than the exhaust , to the tune of around 10 more degree's of duration @ .050 for more midrange now that you can do this since you have cleaned up your head .

                    I assume you have a good exhaust and some compression .

                    Here is an example

                    Megacycle 385-35 on the Exhaust set in on a 108 LCA
                    Megacycle 385-13B on the Intake set on 103-104

                    Killer midrange without sacrifice in top end if you have the compression and exhaust to do it .

                    Use good oil , keep the idle speed up around 1200rpm and no cam longetivety problems . That is if you don't go crazy with the open spring pressures .
