    GS 1100 questions

I'm going to the "Masters" for help. (I thought I'd open with flattery!)

I rebuilding a 1982 1100 Katana motor. It is going to be a very mild street motor, but who doesn't like more power.

    1. It will have new OEM 72 mm. stock bore pistons. Can I use a thinner head gasket for more compression, and what thickness should I use?

    2. I remember that the 88/89 gsxr 750 cams are a good option. Are they a direct drop in? What rockers and cam sprockets should I use? What would you degree them to? Are they worthwhile on a mild motor? ( Mikuni RS36, Yosh exhaust, Dyna S and coils)

    3. My crank is the unwelded one. Is welding necessary for a street bike that will not ever see a drag strip?

    4. How do I tell if my clutch basket needs rebuilding?

    Thank you

In regards to question 3 and 4. Before adding horsepower it is good to start out with a strong bottom end. crankshaft, clutch and transmission... Thinner head gasket? I think you adjust the deck hight with the base gasket. Good luck
