Penske Racing Piggy Back Shocks..... deal !!!!!!

I have been dealing with Penske for dual shocks for gs1100's 80-83's. Not sure about the late 70's if they are the same or not.

Anyway, They are willing to do a deal for anyone who is a gs resourses forum member. 10% off of 1050.00 canadian. Which is 835.00 usd. That is for piggy back double adj shocks. compression/rebound damp

With the discount it comes to 945.00 Candian, 750.00 usd.

I think that is a pretty drnnnnn goooood deal if you ask me!

I have to send Penske a set of stock shocks so they can build me some but then they will have the specs and anyone can order them. I will be sending the shocks this week so the new ones won't be ready for a month or so. So you will have to wait a bit till they have them all measured up.

The dude to contact is Craig at:
    craigfairchild@penskeshocks.com

    The website is:

you can try to deal yourself at other dealers if you wish for our U.S. friends or deal through the Candian Distributor for 10%off.

I am trying to get a pic to post..when I do I will.

    Good luck.

I just got an e-mail back form Craig at Penske. The model of shock he is going to sell is the 8100 series, check them out:

They have adjustments for preload, rebound and compression damping and ride height. Custom lengths different than stock will be no problem. These will be a quantum leap ahead of anything else available in terms of performance and quality. If you want the best shocks available for your baby, then these are it.

Now, I just have to sell the wife on these for Christmas...

So when did Penske get into the shock business? Maybe I been out of touch for a while but never knew these were available. So how do they compare to the Ohlins and other high end shock mfgs? Mike

For newer bikes, the Penskes seem to be one of the best bang for the buck high end shocks. Lower price, compariable features, great quality on par with Ohlins.

I am checking with Craig on the model. They have custom builds with a ohlins style twin shock. That model isn't going to do it.

but this is more like it

He specifically mentioned the 8100's as the model. What is wrong with the 8100 model, anyway? You will have to mount the reservoir to the subframe tubes, but that is it. The integral reservoir one you show would be much nicer if we can swing it at the price mentioned, though. And it looks way cooler...

Penske have been making car (VERY high end car, like F1 and IndyCar) shocks since at least the mid 80's. The bike stuff is more recent, since the later 90's at least, maybe earlier. Their quality and performance put Ohlins on the trailer at a lesser price, with superlative build quality and features. Their top end shock has high speed compression, low speed compression and rebound damping adjustments and a check valve that prevents "cross-talk", where adjusting the rebound circuit affects the compression circuit and vice versa. As far as I know, nobody else offers that feature. Even the top line Ohlins has a significant amount of cross-talk that can be a bear to work around when setting up a race bike.

Are they like most shock mfg's, They charge as much for a single (say 1150) shock as they would for twin 1100 shocks? That's something I've never understood, I know R&D has to be factored but some companies push that to an extreme. So what would a nice Penske shock for an 1150 run? Does anyone know if the stock 1150 shock can have the fluid changed or is it a sealed unit? Mike J

                OK Mark,

I recieved an email from Penske. They will make it with the res. attatched. I have a call into them but Craig is not there right now. He should be giving me a call shortly and I will get all the pertenent info.

I also have a buddy in Ontario who may be able to drop off a set of shocks for us.

I will let you know as soon as I know.

                  Excellent. This is very promising.

It will be in the same neighbourhood, probably $750-$850USD for the double clicker (rebound, compression, preload and ride height adjustments) and around $1000USD for the triple clicker (hi/lo speed compression, rebound, preload and ride height). Take a look at Traxxion Dynamics for some prices. Penske will be a bit cheaper, but these are typical.

                    BAD NEWS!!!!!!

                    Buddy messed up bigtime.

That 8100 shock doesn't come piggy back We have to get into a triple adj shock to get one and they are over 1,400.00........uuuurrggghhh.

I HATE WHEN THEY DO THAT!.

OK, I feel better. On with the search for reasonable shocks.

Sorry everyone for getting your hopes up.

Just got off the phone with Penske head office. There may still be a chance for a deal.

                      I will keep you posted.

Over priced and under performance. The Penske's are so much better that there is no comparison.

As I said earler, the 8100 will work, it will just require mounting the remote reservoir to the subframe tube on each side. Very minor issue, really. Certainly not enough to stop me from wanting a set at the quoted price. Let us know if you manage to squeeze the integral reservoir model out of them for the original price.

Just a question - do they realize we are talking a PAIR of shocks? It just occurred to me that maybe the Penske rep is thinking ONE 8100 shock for that deal... That would be a bit disappointing, to say the least.

I'm not sure what he is thinking....

IF you look on the penske site the 8100 shock is a drag racing shock not a motorcycle shock???

We did talk in "those and them's" No way they are 2000 a pair. Head office is working on it and will get back to me tomorrow though I am working late tomorrow and won't be able to post for a coupld of days maybe. I'm doin 5am to 8pm kind of thing then back to bed to do it again Sat.

Over a year ago a guy that posted here was supposed to have had Lindemann Engineering, http://www.le-suspension.com/, take a look at his 1150 shock to see if they could rebuild it. The guy never posted back whether he had done it or not. Lindemann's only concern was being able to fit a valve to recharge the nitrogen. My 700 has the same basic shock and just looking at where the valve needs to be fit to the shock I think there's room. The guy that was supposed to have LE look at his shock lived in the same town LE is located. Too bad he didn't post back.
