Has anyone tried replacing the o-ring with gasket material? Knowing the issues with the o-ring, and getting close to finishing up on the build, just thought about putting some gasket material in there and give it a whirl.

Do yourself a favor and get boot rings from this guy...he's a member of this forum. There will be plenty of other stuff to fiddle with later!

That’s actually the last page I was read while researching before posting here. The article starts by talking about the o-ring issue(s) then ends with replacing the screws with bolts. Still not a fix on the o-ring.Originally posted by tom203 View Post

Using a new viton o-ring is the fix...using new SS Allen bolts is frosting1981 gs650L

Note that the O ring "problem" occurs every 10-15 years, and you'll see no need for an alternative1978 GS 1000 (since new)
