Tire suggestion for '85 GS550E
Hello guys, I will be replacing the tires of my '85 GS550E. This is my first bike and I'm a novice on this one. Any suggestion as to what brand and size I have to go? The rear tire looks skinny too, any of you guys tried a bigger/fatter tire for the rear? Really appreciate your help as I'm very new to bikes. Thanks a lot!Tags: None

Get Dunlops. You wont regret it. Not sure what tire sizes you need...Currently bikeless

Dunlop's are an excellent choice. Stock you should have a 100/90x16 front and 110/90x18 rear. You can usually increase by one size with no problems. Dunlop GT501's are great tires and come in a 110/90x16 and 120/90x18 sizes. These are sporty tires that will provide excellent grip. Another good choice would be the Conti Ultra TKV11 front and TKV12 rear. They come in the stock sizes 100/90x16 front and 110/90x18 rear. Good Luck, Ed.

I have Avon Super Venoms in the stock sizes (100/90x16 and 110/90x18) on my '85 GS550. They stick very well, although I wish I'd gone with a 120 on the back. The bike previously had a 110 front tire, and I did notice a markedly quicker steering response with the skinnier tire, although it may have had to do more with the different brand (Avon vs. IRC).sigpic
