    Chain/sprocket replacement '78GS1000

I'm replacing what look to be the original chain and sprockets on my GS with a 630X96 DID O-ring and Sunstar front (15) and rear (I ordered 42; they sent a 40) steel sprockets.

Two questions: Anyone tried running a 40-tooth rear sprocket? I'm assuming it'll make the gearing a little taller. And (b) this'll be my first chain and sprocket replacement. Anyone have any golden, or merely sterling, advice about the process?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jack

I have run the taller gearing many years ago when I had a sports touring fairing and did a lot of interstate trips. It makes higway travel more relaxed as less rpm. I don't remember it improving or changing fuel economy in any noticeable way.
