Project: Building a 1260 from an 1100 ground up 1st time!!!

Hi guys. My idea is to build a 1260 from an 1100 starting with the split cases AND DOCUMENT IT step by step with pics here in this thread online. Hoping for your support, ideas and help when necessary. Here is where I'm currently at:

I bought a 1980/81 set of gs1100 cases that have been nicely machined to accept the sleeved 1260 block that also was included in the deal. The cases and block and 3 pistons cost me $450 plus shipping from Quebec Canada. I bought them from Claude Thibault on ebay about 6 months ago.

I also have a 1981 1100 crank with around 5,000 miles on it that I sent to APE to have welded. I also have a stock 1980 1100e motor with 14,279 miles on it sitting in my driveway (a 1980 GS1100L) and a complete 1980-81 engine gasket set. I also have the shop manuals and Clymers for this year as well and can use some of Bike Bandit's diagrams online if I need clarification.

MY PLAN IS TO TAKE APART THE STOCK MOTOR AND TRANSFER EVERYTHING OVER PIECE BY PIECE, SCREW BY SCREW, SUBSTITUTING IN THE WELDED CRANK.... AND USING THE NEW GASKETS.

Since I have no experience putting an engine together, (BUT HAVE READ HERE IN THE FORUM THAT IT IS NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO ACCOMPLISH) AND I have tools and am somewhat mechanically competent PLUS I have you the GSR's to see me thru it.... I figure I can pull it off.... What do you think? If response is positive I will post pics next.....

Sounds like fun, throw up the pictures. Are you planning any other mods to go with the big bore?

Welcome to the GSR man We love these threads around here.

By all means go for it! if your going with that bore I would suggest
stepping up the compression a point or two and maybe some stage
II cams. These two things compliment a larger bore nicely on these engines.

Are you planning on using the CV carbs from your whole bike?

Other mods to go with the 1260 big bore project....

Hey Hoomgar.... I have been watching your progress on that 1000 of yours..... or should I say 125hp wannabe? I have a current 1000 project that is not as ambitous.... I powder coated my 78 frame a color called Halogen.(kind of drab black until the light hits it and then RAINBOW!!).. I dropped a stock 1983 1100 in it. Has a polished Cal Fab swingarm and PM Chicane wheels with 190's... not quite finished with her but no major engine mods there....I will finish that project in the next couple of weeks while I get ramped up/set up for this one.....

I also really appreciate your encouragement ..... BTW....I just bought Rob (Katman's) extra Katana frame and body armor.... my plan is to degree in a set of stage II cams, and use a ported head. I have a nice welded basket already... also I can either go with 33mm smoothbores or more likely RS36mm flatslides.... I will probably use my 1990 GSXR1100 swingarm for this project though!!!

Sounds like all your're missing is a couple cans of carb cleaner to clean up everything then you can build it up this evening and take her to the track tomorrow.

Points of genius, boys beware of this guy he sold me a piston kit on E-bay that wasn't as described(one piston unusable). Wouldn't return my E-mails, it's a small world and what goes around comes around. Not impressed with this Arizona crook.

Would be good if you posted some evidence when destroying a guys rep. I see you are a new poster and we don't know you either. Those are some serious alligations and it wouldn't be good if you have the wrong guy

Just one man's opinion on that.

pointshyofgenius@yahoo.com.... if anyone wants/needs to contact me outside of this forum. Maybe dlind can send me an email and we can work on a retraction from him.... :x

Yes, you also go by the name Amitai Amitai, you sent me a 1230cc Wiseco piston kit with one piston skirt scuffed so bad that it was unusable. Unfortunately for me I gave you good feedback than I opened the packages(lesson learned) the last piston I opened was the bad one. I than E-mailed you and told you I wasn't pleased and I didn't think what you did was right, I got no reply from you. I have seen you still selling and buying on E-bay and when I saw this thread you started there was no way I wasn't going to comment about you. I'm sorry to have hijacked this thread everyone but I know what happened and this is the guy. Take it for what it is, I know everyone has an opinion on someone, and stupid me for getting ripped, just trying to give everyone a heads up that's all. I've put out my share of fires in the past and I'm sure this won't be the last time I get taken. I have keep no info from my correspondance with him only that he lives in Prescott Az. E-bay can be a good experience for most but alot of garbage gets dumped on others. I've said my peace and that's all you'll hear from me.

Hijacked thread..... ending this one... will start a new one

HERE IS THE TEXT OF THE PRIVATE MESSAGE I JUST SENT THIS GUY.
I AM ENDING THIS THREAD AND WILL START A NEW ONE AND I WILL ASK THE MODERATOR TO BAN "DLIND" FROM POSTING ON THE NEW THREAD.

                              Text sent to DLIND:
What you just did with your posts was completely wrong and uncalled for and I believe will reflect very badly on you. It is a perfect example of the wrong way to handle a problem. You could have contacted me at any time either on ebay or here and explained your complaint....instead you hijaack a thread.... and with no proof!!!! Shame on you for that.

If you had a problem with something you bought from me on ebay then all you had to do was contact me by email or phone all of that information is readily available.....but you never did!!! I searched for your feedback but could not find any from "dlind"... what is your ebay name? Let everyone be able to look up your transactions as well. Once I did have one problem with a Canadian guy on ebay.... he bid on an auction that I listed for US only, sniped it at the end.... then when I refused to sell to him and left him negative feedback he sent me nasty emails .... maybe a friend of yours?

I have a perfect ebay record .... buying and selling. Over 425 different people have been very happy with no negative complaints. Now you come on this forum and accuse me of cheating you on ebay and offer no proof AND hijack the thread to boot.

I do remember selling a 1230 piston set on ebay, and of course I did get good feedback.... I received the set as part of a larger purchase of parts.... I have never built, raced or run a large bore kit in my life.... and do not have an 1150 crank either .... so I sold the set on ebay.

I sold the pistons just as they came to me, never used them. If you were the buyer and there really was a bad piston I would have refunded your money. But you never contacted me and Now you are hijacking a forum thread and telling people that I am a crook, even when I have a perfect ebay feedback record and you admit that you left positive feedback without inspecting the pistons.

                              That is just plain wrong!!!!!!!!!
