How fast is is your old GS?

    How about; how loud is your GS

    I used the decible app, for what its worth, to see what the noise level is at highway speed. Inside the windjammer on the leather cover, left hand side, the reading at 55mph was 85-87 decibels. Sitting at idle was only 38-40 which is conversation level.

    Just for comparison, the turbo hand dryer in the public restroom was at 85.

      Those phone apps are pretty limited in my experience. They "Max out" at a certain point. I used a few around running helicopters and jets and could never get them to read over 85. I'd imagine they're hardware limited in regards to the microphone.

        I once got my old GS1100E up to 8000 rpm in fifth. That calculated to about 135. (on a state highway out in the middle of nowhere, Ohio). It was still pulling, had more in it. But the 'Vette I was running against was beat at 135 so I didn't try for 140.

          A stock-ish (flash and slip-on) C14 went 182 at Bonneville. Without the bags I'm guessing. I have only had mine up to 119. But that was in a quarter mile

          Edit: It was El Mirage, not Bonneville. Still F-ing fast.

            SO... this thread was started over 15 years ago. Is that some kind of record?
            How about "15 years and no screaming or name calling" among us ??? that's gotta be a record !!!

              83 GS 1100 after being broken in with a Yosh built motor,145 on I-5 just north of Vancouver Washington, I chickened out and backed off. Timed by a friendly off duty SP in my car club.

                With stock gearing that's about all these could do.

                  I had my old 82 GS1100 EZ at a couple hundred RPM over it's 9K redline. Should have been about 142-143. Once is enough, I hardly ever get above 70 anymore, so I can enjoy the ride. Don't need the rush.

                    Good guestion. Pegged the speedo today so maybe 90 with still some room to spare after new plugs and one more jet size up to 122.5 on the GS250T. Sure does feel a lot faster than my SV at 105.
                    Will have to GPS to verify.

                      Tried mine 1985 Gs750 es (3/4 fairing I believe) a month ago on the highway with 2 up, maxed out at 119. Strange thing it runs same speed on 5-th as on 4-th. After all spark plugs reads lean...but location itself is smthng like 2000 ft above sea level.

                        My old GS850 is faster than I am. that's all can tell ya.

                          My speedo pegs at 85 in 3rd, so Im not too sure but I do know there are two more gears left after that

                            You can open the speedo, break off that stop pin, and paint marks on the speedo face.
