80 model GS550 back to stock configuration

Pic below is my 1980 GS550E with around 8,200 miles on it.

After buying it on FB, I brought it home and did what I would have done in 1980. I put a header system/ carb tune and Quality air pods on it.
It ran pretty well and sounded great but didn't look like a 1980 GS550E. So, she is going back to stock configuration.
The PO put the shorty bars/mirrors/cheap pods and led headlight on it, and I did the rest.

These are some of the things I removed to get this project started. The Delkivic exhaust sounded great but it ran like crap.

Stock exhaust is absolutely pristine, top and bottom.

Led headlight is much brighter than stock but doesn't, IMHO, look right for this bike.

Waiting on some OEM clamps for the intake to carb and air box. Carbs will get one size up from stock on main and slow jets. Note to self.... Adjust cam chain tensioner while in this state of disassembly. Almost No access if the carbs are installed.

Picture below is after the stock airbox, headlight and exhaust were installed. I must say that stock airbox install was one of the toughest jobs I've done to date.

Close up of the stock airbox. Note that the PO cut the unobtanium stock side covers to fit the cheap pods.

I have to say that, this GS550e has Never run better since I've owned it. I don't believe that CV carburetors were ever designed for pod filters. I had installed the DNA pods which fit perfectly and are very expensive, but I could not get it to run right. The stock airbox, airfilter and exhaust and a little adjusting on the carbs and she runs as good as my GS750. No more pods on CV's.

Handlebars, mirrors and brake master cylinder are next in line to be replaced with stock parts. Just waiting on new grips to arrive. The stock mirrors and handlebars came with the bike when I purchased it.

Looks great! I was beginning to think I was the only person that detests those goofy looking non stock headlights.
