    78 gs 1000

Bought the bike 2 weeks ago. after new brakes, carb cleaning, and alot of steel wool and mothers polish! here she is!

got it off a guy for cheap. he thought the motor was gone.

the clunkety clunk was coming from a loose clutch basket!
she purrs like a kitten now!

prob going to sell the bike! and move on to another proj.

since im kinda new to the gs (and have been told this paticular year is worth more money than others)what would be a good asking price to start at? for this model in this condition. thanks

That Sir, is a nice clean looking ride!

You should have no problem getting at least a case of beer for it!

All kidding aside, I am sure you should have no problem getting it gone.
Maybe craigslist or ebay would be a good place to research the current selling price for one of that vintage/condition. When you do post it for sale, make sure to include lots of pics of shiny chrome, bikes do tend to go for more if people see shiny bits as opposed to just a single pic of a decent condition bike. Pictures taken in the sun with gleaming chrome add value like you wouldn't believe!

    Best of luck!

I would put a front fender on it before trying to sell it.

No front fender keeps crash damage in my mind. We know that all 30 year old bikes have had some, but missing frnders drive it home at a glance, to me anyway.

I would say 2 grand is a decent starting price.

      Just an opinion

      What seat cover is that?

Price depends on where you are located

        $2K seems high:

        No front fender
Repainted wrong color - should be metallic blue or red with stripes
Emblems need to have black background

The seat is stock, if it's good that's a plus

It's worth more than average, but a lot less than an original one

The original color of mine was maroon with orange stripe and gold pinstip.
i paid 450$ but it was in rough shape.
For the price, i dont know maybe 1500-2000$ with some work.

Put it on ebay and what it brings is what its worth.
I'd say 2k as long as it dont have any rusty bits here and there.

Like Mac says, pics are worth a thousand words. Good pics that show closeup details will sell, or not sell that bike

The seat is the original shape for the spokie model.

I'd have to see the pattern on the top to tell you if it's original

I don't think its original, but it looks more stock than a Saddlemen cover to me.
