Ok... ducked out this morning and got some supplies for some things including those split pins I was missing:
Popped the split pins on:
Then I put some fuel in the tank and started her up so I could check the Dynatek ignition timing, charging system, and clutch and gear shifts...
Everything was good, timing spot on, charging system doing the right thing, clutch disengages, and I could shift all the way up to 6th and back. Awesome!
The only negative is that she's still really lean, so I think I'll go up another 2 pilot sizes. I had the mixture screws out as far as 4.5 turns and it was still lean and not wanting to come back down to idle. At least it's not a hanging idle which means my intake leaks are fixed!
Then I have her a bath and a bit of a quick polish and took some pic's with the mate's you-beaut camera (used it for the video as well) and of course it was cloudy again this avo:

And then I got the house mate to stand in the drive way while I geared up...
He said he could hear me most of the way 'round the block and it sounded good
I'm a bit wobbly there coz that's the first time I've been on a bike in nearly 10 years and man am I stoked!!!!
I know it was all of a 2 minute ride, but hey it was a ride!
I'm going to call the mobile safety certificate guy tomorrow and see if the idle issue will affect the safety certificate and if there's any issue with the battery being exposed like it is.
Providing those two things are ok I'll book him in for Tuesday and cross my fingers it passes...
I gave it all a good look tonight to see if I could see any oil leaks or what not, and I had a scare which turned out to be excess chain lube, so no dramas there.
It looks like the oil around the valve cover has burnt off and it's not leaking, so it must just need to absorb some oil and then it's all good. Even though the paint is a bit darker near the seal, it's not oily or damp at all. I also checked the front and rear of the cylinder and all was good except I didn't polish the cam end covers...
I still need to do something with the tail piece. The seat has settled a bit now I've ridden it and while there's no gap like there was, I'd like this to look a little neater:
Definitely not urgent, will just keep it in the back of my mind...
Now to start organising some more pilot jets and probably some bigger mains too...1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

My first thought when I watched the first video was "Jeezus! Turn man, TURN! I know you said you are wobbley but you're swinging way too wide, get back in your own lane!!!"
I am such a ding-dong.
