Guest repliedWas done where I took the pictures. It's a fairly sheltered area. After taking the picture me and the wife moved it to the shed for a long cure.Hopefully it 's going to be a tough finish.

Did you do the paint job right there or inside and then took it back out for pictures? Looks really good.

Guest repliedSo I was wondering how to get the frame completely painted, came up with this
It worked out wonderfully. Here is my new "custom" frame paint
Is a little darker than I'd thought but I think it looks good.
Had to get done today as rainy weather here is predicted to come in tomorrow

Guest repliedDone a bit of painting and helped my dad with more.Prep is definitely the key. That's why it needs to be sanded, the wire brush leaves a ridge .My dad painted for a living and was fussy about it,so am I.Last edited by Guest; 11-05-2010, 12:17 AM.

Now ya gettin' somewhere! I'm sure you know prep work is the key, and that's certainly some good prep work there.

Took the angle grinder with a wire brush to the frame. Then hit it with some rust converter. Will sand it down tomorrow and if the weather holds may paint it to.

They do seem pretty good!
I also just ordered a cam chain from an eBay seller in the US... $14.99 postage brought the whole price to just under $63 in Aus dollars... wish they were that cheap locally!

That frame is certainly looking much cleaner! I couldn't believe the difference in mine either once I'd gotten the cleaner onto it.
I did mine with POR 15 Blackcote with brushes and it came out pretty well over all. You can still see some brush strokes but I can live with that.
I also used POR 15 Metal Ready which takes care of the little bits of surface rust around the place and gives it all a nice surface for the paint to adhere.
Those grips should be nice and comfy too by the looks, gotta love the gel stuff!

Guest repliedOn this thread http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=167441 I found out about this:
So I'm going to give it a try. It's really just a strong enamel,my dad used to work where they made real epoxy paint. This is not but as long as it works,it will have all winter to cure.

The projects looking great. I recently painted the frame on my 1000 and tried many different rattle cans, VHT, plasti kote, Canadian Tire Dupli-color. Wound up going with a Dupli-color product that is an epoxy mix I found at JB's Paint and Body Supplies down on Oak St. After being left for awhile it has turned into a very durable stock looking black. The VHT frame paint is very close though, just a bit shinier. Looking forward to the next pics.
