What the hell have i done!!!

    My new project.

Two totally apart GS650G 1981 model, even though I still havent finished my first GS650.

    I couldn't resist.

At least I know more now than when I started my first unfinished project.

This one is going to be very interesting as they are empty, and I mean not a bolt or anything on the frames.

The attached photos dont show the bikes as they are now.

They were the PO's photo's as they started taking them apart.

More photos showing them totally apart to follow

They are currently sitting in a new temp storage location 1000 kms from home.

I plan to document the whole process this time here and included photo's.

Oh wow! You're keen|insane|brave|silly|addicted. Choose your word

At least if they're completely dismantled it saves you the trouble of having to pull everything apart first and you can clean and paint and start reassembly straight away...

I know. I call it insane.

I think first is to get all the parts back to Sydney, 2000 kms round trip.

I have it all in storage in Gold Coast at the moment

Then document all parts, including the lots of lots of lots screws.

Then clean the frame, assemble the forks and tree, put the wheels back on

I was moving one of the motors today and dropped it about two inches.

Bent two of the bottom fins but hopefully no other damage

Sounds like you're gonna have fun! That is indeed a round trip... have done the drive to Sydney and back myself once... don't wanna do that again in a hurry, at least not in a car

I'm sure dropping the engine from that height won't be too much of a drama (except those fins of course).

And sounds like your plan should do the trick to get you a good solid start...

Was my first road bike a GS650 katana.....

This trip reminds me one time in 1993, the GS1000 was in storage at a “mates ” place in Noosa Q.L.D as I just moved to Canberra….3 weeks later on a Monday I had a call, “Iv broken up with my misses, you have 2 weeks to get it out or its off to the wreckers”… boss was a bike lover and understood so let me have Friday off and so I left towing a trailer…

Couldn’t really sleep in the car too wired up on all the coffee I was drinking , round trip roughly 36hrs.

          What you do hey!
You know I still have the GS today and never have spoken to or seen him since…

          Go hard…..It’ll be fun!
