Guest repliedI knew I should have jumped in on Duaneage's offer when it was there..
Ah well, as I said to him, there's quick and the dead.
I'll dig around through the threads.
Duaneage has a link on how to convert the Honda unit so I might follow that plan.
Or lose it, throw a spanner and buy one of the Shindengens.

I've got a Honda R/R on mine .
Works good and fairly cheeep (even cheeeeper at a wreckers ).
Might have to call in for a beer on the way through Pete ?
Well be down your way around 23 of January . Don't have any idea about when or if on the way home . Could end up via Broken Hill . (That's the beauty of a sorted GS , as you'll find out ) .
Cheers , Simon .

I'll go looking for a rec/reg on the weekend.
I'm doing the R/R hunt myself but looks like I'll be importing from the US just for a change. We really don't like helping ourselves out over here do we? There's literally crap loads of those Shindengen units on eBay in the US, but I couldn't find even one here in Aus yet...

Guest repliedI looked at an XJR1300 to carry me through the summer while the GS gets the proper treatment but the bank giggled at me. Quite rudely I thought.
So that's where Plan B comes into action.
-Replace the R/R
-Find the break in the lever to brake light circuit
-Push it through the registration
-Ride!
Then next Winter will be the time to polish the turd.

I must apologise for my sudden absence.
I went back to school and got me some smarts in the form of a Training & Assessment Certificate.
I am now qualified to train and assess students, workers etc
I haven't studied since 1985. It took a lot of effort and time to get my head back into the swing of it.
I swear I could smell burning dust, like an old oil heater that hasn't been used for a few years.
As it was a pretty intense course (for my dusty, old brain anyway) I pretty much curtailed all net time and got stuck in.
Consequently, the bike is still where it was 4 months (5?) ago.
I will never giggle about your extended rebuild time again, Pete..
If all goes well in the morning I shall be starting a new job that, while extending the hours a bit, will be bringing in some serious coin.
The half formed plan is to pull the motor and take it out to the mate's engineering shop and have it soda blasted.
While it's out there, the frame will come back and be done in gloss black and the body repainted in proper paint by a proper painter.
Yes, my mate ahs finally moved down from Queensland and brought a selection of quality PPG gear with him.
Or I just throw it on the road as is and ride, baby, ride!
I do like Plan B.
Sounds like it could be a plan for the bike except it's gettin' warmer...
No wonder I've been steaming along with progress though, you haven't done anything for 4 months!
