I started teaching the Brother in law to ride a bike... he bought this for his first one. Asked me to go with him to check it out. Discovered he already had put money down on it.
'03 Sabre, 13K miles, $4995 and I got him new tires, full service, with the goodies and a helmet worked into the deal. He told me he'd rode before... come to find out it was 20 years ago... in a field... on a dirt bike... and he never shifted out of 1st..... Oh, and he is deaf... So I rode it home from the dealership for him and been helping him out since. It's been kinda trying on me to say the least. But he's getting the hang of it up and down our 600' driveway. Next comes the high-school parking lot on Sunday where I will let him practice low speed turns.

Kudos on the jet removal! VonYinzer swears by those Shinko tires as well- but I've never had the pleasure of running them.

Don't you have some kind of a dirt bike to put the bro-in-law on first? Either way, glad to hear another person on 2 wheels.

Nope, no Dirt Bikes here, last ones around these parts was my buddies then new XR75 and anothers KE100 Kawa that we used to take turns tearing up the fields with in the '70s. My Mom-n-Dad had bought me a Sears mini bike first a few years before and that's how we all got the fever...

geez, you think we could get a lil more progress than 3 days to get a screw outta a carb?! Just ribbin' ya..ive been there, Ive found the best thing is a dental handpiece with a carbide bur to cut a nice lil groove in em and take em on out, but hurry up, I wanna see this thing done!

These 6 day work weeks are cuttin into my play time. But using the "SunnBobb" philosophy of do something everyday when working on a bike project, no matter how small it is, do SOMETHING! has always worked well for me. Even if it means crackin a cold one, standing back and staring at it. That may even get the creative juices flowing.

Got a free moment tonight and decided to mount the tires, not my first set of tire but my first with tubes. (OK in the last 30 years)
First came the front, partially inflated the new tube and careful, steady, first half without a hitch, then at the last of the second bead... PFFFT... I pinched the tube!
Well I know I need another tube so lets see if I can do the rear. May need to get both tubes before it's over.
I remembered reading on other forums about a "Garbage bag trick", after a little googling lead to this you-tube video.

Sure enough, worked like a charm. I had to use my irons at the very end but no issues. So I am off to the dealership to see if the have a replacement front tube in stock so I can finish this small part tomorrow.

Mission accomplished! Bought a replacement tube for the front and got it mounted last night... Then moved onto the rotors. Scuffed the black painted centers in preperation of their fresh paint. Going to use the same low gloss ceramic engine enamel I used on the cylinders of my engine. 500 degree and chemical resistant so it should hold up well.

Thanks Pal! Front is a bare wheel and tire at this point, need to install the new wheel bearings I have and reassemble the whole she-bang. Then I can get it mounted. Hopefully tomorrow... but there is a bike show that I'd like to enter "Bomber" in...

Wow, it's starting to look like a motorcycle again. Good stuff! I used that same theory of doing "something" every day to get me through my KZ1000 build. It works well because it keeps a corner of your mind on the project. If you let a couple of days go, then it turns into weeks, and sometimes it turns into forever.

Ain't that the truth! I am probably borderline attention defaecate disorder what-ever... Gotta stay focused.
So along those lines with that little prodding from Big Rich, I got out to the shop early today before the heat set in. Record breaker fore casted today with dangerous heat index / humidity. Got the front wheel done, rotors torqued to spec and installed. She's officially a "Roller"!





Sure am glad I used my better judgment and replaced all the wheel bearings. The rears looked and felt fine so I was starting to second guess myself on spending the $. But when I got to this rusty front one it made me feel much better!
YUK!



Now to run the wiring and finish up those carbs. Working on a Z-1 order for the float bowl gaskets, rubber plugs, and a replacement mixture screw. $36 plus shipping ain't bad compared to other places I frequent.

Actually, I thought you would have pointed out that it was on 5 wheels.......not one.

Either way, good job Hoosier! Once a bike becomes a roller again it just makes everything easier.
